In the town of Dafniya, 20 miles west of Misurata, fierce battle rages as Libyan freedom fighters attack the artillery positions of forces loyal to Muammar Gaddafi.

Freedom fighters marked their four month of fighting against the Gaddafi regime on Friday and were seen firing rocket propelled grenades, machine guns and rocket launchers to combat artillery fire from forces loyal to the Libyan leader.

Barrages of artillery and missiles were reportedly hitting opposition lines as they continued trying to advance out of the besieged western city of Misurata and push towards the capital Tripoli.

As the violent clashes continued Colonel Gaddafi spoke to Libyan state television by telephone saying that Nato would be defeated.

In an speech broadcast in audio by state television, Libya’s leader delivered a trademark tirade that heaped scorn on the increasingly protracted campaign to bolster the rebellion against his 42-year rule.

“This is the first time they are facing an armed nation of millions,” Col Gaddafi said. “They will be defeated. The alliance will be defeated.
