Dental records for Hana Gaddafi reopen mystery of Libyan leader’s daughter

By James Kirkup
Files stored in a basement room in one of London’s most expensive districts could shed new light on one of the greatest mysteries of Muammar Gaddafi’s Libya: the alleged death of his baby daughter.

The documents were found in the Libyan Embassy in Knightsbridge this week after rebels fighting to end Gaddafi’s reign formally took possession of the “People’s Bureau”. They disclose a London dentist’s work for the Gaddafi regime, reopening the mystery of the daughter the Libyan leader claims was killed in a US bombing raid.

Stephen Hopson refused to discuss his dealings with Libya

The Daily Telegraph has seen the papers. They show that in 2008 Libyan officials in London arranged for the dentist, Stephen Hopson, to fly to Tripoli to treat a patient called “Hana Ghadafi”.

Hana was the name of the baby daughter that Gaddafi claimed was killed in the US air strike on Tripoli in 1986. The attack is said to have led the dictator to order terrorist reprisals, including the 1988 Lockerbie bombing.

Hana Gaddafi’s death has never been verified, and many Libyans believe she actually survived the 1986 attack and still lives in Tripoli.

In 2008, the Libyan ambassador, Omar Jelban, personally arranged a business class flight to Tripoli for Mr Hopson.

The dentist declined yesterday to give details of his patient or discuss his professional dealings with the regime. There is no suggestion of wrongdoing on his part, but the documents will revive speculation about the dictator’s daughter.

They show the Libyan embassy arranging for Mr Hopson to visit Tripoli in April 2008. In a fax to Mr Jelban, the dentist said he would be treating a patient he identified as “Miss Hana Ghadafi”.

It reads: “This is to confirm that I will be visiting Tripoli to treat Miss Hana Ghadafi this coming weekend. I will need a return plane ticket leaving the morning of Saturday 19th April and returning to London on the afternoon/evening of Sunday 20th April.”

There is no agreed way of rendering Arabic names into Roman script, meaning that Western spellings of Libyan names vary.

Also on April 14 2008, the Libyan ambassador instructed a London travel company to arrange flights for Mr Hopson, at the Libyan government’s expense.

Mr Jelban wrote a signed letter to Arab Tours asking them to issue the dentist with business-class British Airways tickets for the dates he requested. “Please send your invoice for settlement, with a copy of this letter, to the Libyan People’s Bureau in London,” he wrote.

Asked about Miss Gaddafi and the Libyan trip, Mr Hopson said he was “neither admitting or denying” anything. He said he could not give any details about his patient.

“There’s an element of patient confidentiality and if you were a patient, you wouldn’t want me revealing anything about any care that you had received and that’s why I can make no comment about any of this” he said.

Asked if his patient was Col Gaddafi’s daughter, Mr Hopson said: “It’s possible perhaps there could be a second Hana Gaddafi. It’s not beyond the realms of possibility.”

This week, Die Welt, a German newspaper, reported that Gaddafi’s daughter is alive and well and living in Tripoli.

Hana Gaddafi is thought to have been born in November 1985 and adopted by the Libyan leader shortly afterwards. Since her alleged death, a number of reports have suggested that she survived and remains close to Col Gaddafi.

In 1999, the official Chinese state news agency reported the presence of a Hana Gaddafi at a lunch her father held for Nelson Mandela.

This year, the Swiss froze assets linked to the Gaddafi family, including assets held under that name. Miss Gaddafi was reported to have lived in London as a teenager before studying medicine in Tripoli and working for the health ministry.

The embassy’s files contain numerous other documents relating to trips arranged to Libya by officials, but few involved Mr Jelban directly.

A Libyan government official on Friday night claimed that Hana is a second adopted daughter taken on by Col Gaddafi after the first one was killed in the 1986 bombing.

“This not an important issue when we have children dead and Nato bombing civilians in our country,” a Tripoli official said. “The Daily Telegraph should concentrate on these important issues.”

It’s no problem they can kill her again.
All the Gaddafis need to be killed several times. Apparently they are zombies that live off human flesh. They need to be decapitated and shot with a silver bullet.

Is she’s still alive Post -Gaddafi, someone will find her and kill her as she deserves. There certainly are enough victims who are extremely well motivated to accomplish that. It’s not just the Gaddafis – anyone that profits or profited off the Tyranny does not deserve to continue to having gotten fat off the blood of human beings.
    So…no problem.

I think that a lot of countries and corporations, out of their leaders greed and pusillanimity, have profited much more from the Tyranny than Hana Gaddafi. I understand she was adopted when she was 6 months old, nobody asked her anything and she probably doesn’t know if her real parents are still alive.
That is why I doubt unfair statements like yours, Mr. Miller, help advance the ff’s cause…

“That is why I doubt unfair statements like yours, Mr. Miller, help advance the ff’s cause”

My statement is not at all unfair. You are just totally ignorant of what totalitarian is and how it creates it’s members. Every member of a profiteering Tyrant class is equally guilty of living off the blood and deaths of the innocent unless they specifically renounce the rewards and association of that class.

My statement was not designed to help any “cause”, it was designed to expose the nature of evil and the nature of totalitarianism and to precisely expose such bleeding heart liberals such as yourself who lack the experience, perspicacity and courage to under sand what full evil is in a society. It is nt individuals that are evil , it is a culture of evil and everyone in that culture unless they renounce it they must be destroyed.

And you , the bleeding heart liberals who are unable to take on responsibility of dealing with evil, it is you and your kind that allowed Gaddafi to exist for 42 years and that includes all the Gaddafis by any other name.
Wake up and smell the brimstone oh ye Bleeding Heart Liberals, it reeks for thee.

  3. tavarez says:

You sound like a religious fundamentalist. There is nothing wrong with that except that most of you people are very biased. So, from your point of view, who else is evil?
Blair, who, in exchange for juicy oil deals, returned to Libya the guy serving time in prison for masterminding the Lockerbie bombing?
Berlusconi, who didn´t shy away from kissing Gaddafi’s hand?
Lula, who compared cuban political prisoners to bandits and thugs?
Bush, who fooled the american people into a stupid and illegal war in Iraq?
The soviet leadership which killed thousands in Afghanistan?
The christian evangelic bunch in the US who support the Israeli government no matter how many palestinians they kill or how much palestinian land they steal?

In practical terms, the problem with your statements is that, when libyan rebels approach Tripoli, all those “evil” city dwellers will put up a desperate fight first If they think they are going to be slaughered in the name of destroying the so called “culture of evil”.

So, I apologise, I was wrong. In fact by delaying Gaddafi’s downfall you are objectively one of his supporters, only travestited in a religious fundamentalist.

  4. James Miller says:

    @Tavarez

    “religious fundamentalist ? Blair? BUSH??
    Names, names issues, MSM politics.
    Wow!
You have a lot of agendas and a very confused mind.
One that I don’t want to know about.

What I can see is your head is full of things pushed into you by your news system and your practical experience of totalitarian systems is zlitch. Most probably from looking at your laundry list you are even far removed from practical experience in your own culture.

I am using the practical definition of evil as that which is destructive to human society.
Simple. The word “evil is just a convenient shortcut for making a long long sociological definition of the state of affairs of mankind that when started requires much detailing.
    See how that works?
But then again when you don’t have either the sociological definition or the shortcut means you have no understanding of the main forces at work in the work and thus you couldn’t possibly have a handle on any ideas that produce effective change.

All those “evil city dwellers will put up a fight? You should stop listening to Gaddafi propaganda. And I would equally advise you to ignore Western propaganda about this – they have yet another agenda.

It will happen like Bucharest ,the right people will get quickly killed. You don’t have an understanding of this, I suggest you just sit back and watch. The big question is if the west interferes directly. So long as they don’t things will be quick.

The right people that will get killed are the ones with blood on their hands – they have done it to themselves – they have given themselves no other way out – just the same as mobsters. The number of them compared to the rest of Libyans is very small. When the end comes they will crumble from within and without like dry power. The only thing that could go wrong is if the West saves the security forces that have the blood on their hands. That will cause problems in Libya for decades to come.

There won’t be a lot of death so long as the West does not interfere with the endgame. The Free Libyans will not execute the entire upper middle class that is totally unnecessary and not relevant – even though that class is the “palace guard” that benefited from the regime.
I’m afraid that not to my liking, not all of the inner circle will be exterminated as they deserve, because that’s just the way these things work. There won’t be any big deal there.. And again so long as the West does not interfere the Libyans will obliterate the Tyranny Power Base as a class system, not the people but the system, because that is the natural process of revolution and it is also what is currently expressed as wanted by the Libyan people in the free areas of Libya.
Whatever, you are very confused about all of this.
    Back to the original question?
    What was it?
Saif is such a fair-haired boy don’t be too hard on him?
Or was it Khamis you said – poor boy he had such a bad childhood or was it he had such a good childhood?
What excuse can we use to avoid considering humans responsible for their actions?

Or wait! Was Hana married off to one of the 200 or so murderers of the inner circle or did she run away to freedom and the West denouncing her murderous father?
But we didn’t see her eve when she wa outside Libya! Guess she likes it at home having tea with the blood on the cups still warm.
Ah but she is an orphan? So she is forgiven!!
    Done!
    etc etc.

Personal idiosyncrasies. That is what you are relating to.

You have no understanding of social process or what a totalitarian society, how it works, what goes on, is but you should try to understand one thing which you have a problem with..
That one thing is RESPONSIBILITY – people are responsible for what they choose. To decide to be remain with a totalitarian system is to be part of it, to be part of the ultimate destructiveness of all that is human.

That is to be what all others on this planet, religious or not, will call evil and unacceptable.
Except of curse totalitarians themselves and..
    who else?
    oh ..
    and you.
    .
You don’t object because you don’t know what it is.
Is totalitarianism a tea service? an ice cream cone. ?
And so we come full circle.

The trouble with MSM objectivity and moral relativism is that hose engineered products (minds) become nothing but flotsam and jetsam. They have no force in the world, no meaning and no effectiveness..

I cannot be responsible for educating you and the other like yourself. It was interesting to make this probe to glimpse into you mind but it looks like a place nobody should want to live or could live for very long.
    ..
The war against totalitarianism is worldwide and ongoing. we as a race, have won so far. Whenever any of us lose, we all lose. Wherever Totalitarian culture becomes established it becomes a force which wars against all of us and forces us to defend ourselves.
It is cultural and cultural transmission. Every person within such a culture makes the conscious decision to either oppose it or surrender to it. No one gets a free pass to not have to make this decision ,
That is because the culture is TOTAL.
AS someone said of the Nazi’s we don’t have enough psychologists to cure them all, maybe one day we will and we won’t have to kill them.
