The Libyan authorities are being urged to investigate the death of a former ambassador, who was detained by an armed militia group in Tripoli.
The organisation, Human Rights Watch, says it believes Omar Brebesh was tortured to death.
The government has promised to investigate allegations of torture in many of the detention centres being run by the militias around the country and some prisons have been handed over to the justice ministry.
The BBC’s Jonathan Head has been speaking to Mr Brebesh’s son, Bashir, in Tripoli.

Dear Mr. Bashir:
Please accept my condolences over the untimely death of your father. I too lost my father in the early 1980′s at the hands of the revolutionary committees. And I hope that the perpetrators from all sides, who continue to torture will be captured and hel accountable for their heinous acts.
Regardless of our plitical leanings, no one in Libya deserves to be tortured, humiliated and killed .Justice can always be rendered without vengence.
I hope a huge majority of Libyans share the feelings put forward by Heisham.
Whatever the anger about past events, getting into cycles of revenge will not take the country forward.
I’m sorry to learn about your father’s death in the hands of the revolutionaries. Was that in Libya as well ?
Without a justice system we will hear more stories like this one. The Libyan people are angry about the past and they have to realize that they should not become like their former villains who hurt them deeply for too long.
The NTC should avoid a major crisis in Libya due to a lack of a judicial system.
He got what he deserved torture and execution is a fair and just punishment .
Too bad they couldn’t do the same to the fascist trouble-making son as well.
This is the real world folks – this is how it really works blood for blood teh only real justive there is – you don’t like it go back to Kansas. or go take a trip to Disneyland.
How do you know the guy was guilty of anything? No one should be treated like that, if he done a crime than he should have been taken to court, don’t think we really want the Americans idea of justice in Libya ( rendition etc)! Tad bit unreasonable in your comments!!
Sorry from my POV your notion of ‘justice ‘ is unreasonable and your notion comes from the West . That notion of ‘justice’ is meant to keep the status quo, and empowers the fascist rich.
..
Revolutionary justice cleans house and leaves rivers of blood on the streets
As it should be.
Revolution is not a tea party. It is a house cleaning. If the revolutionaries decided he needed to be killed then according to the laws of revolution he needed to be killed.
Welcome to the real world. Save the fantasies for Britain and America where you need fantasies to pretend to yourselves that the rich are not crushing you with their iron boots of economic fascism and where the BS fantasy of ‘justice’ is the distribution of endless suffering and misery upon the masses.
It’s not the revolutionaries that can decide to kill someone ( law of the jungle), don’t be mistaken as it is Islamic Law the law of the Muslims that decides someones fate which is a God given law not a law given by humans! It’s a revolution in Libya but it has to be done the Islamic way or their will be no success for the people.
My notion most certainly do not come from the west as I am a Muslim and I obey Gods commands not mans and the trouble that we have in Libya is because of gaddafi’s tyrant rule for 42 years but God willing it will take time but it will sorted out in the end if the Libyans stay united!
